The dust collector itself is only one part of an efficient dust collection system. An airtight and optimized ductwork layout is essential to maximize your shop's performance. Oneida Air Systems has put together a guide designed to provide a basic understanding of dust collection airflow and the components required to successfully complete an entire ductwork installation. Each section of this blog series will take you through the processes of preparing, assembling, and connecting your ductwork.
As with any project, it is important to plan ahead to ensure a successful ductwork installation. Make sure you complete these easy steps once your order is received.
Check Your Shipment For Damage
While we pack every shipment as safe and efficiently as possible, we can't account for every eventuality that might occur during shipment - especially those created by other parties. For this reason, it's very important that you note any tears or irregularities on the packaging, however slight, and note them on the shipping delivery receipt.
Even small defects could be an indication of extensive concealed damage. If the product is received damaged, and you sign for it free and clear, then you will unfortunately have no recourse with the freight company. The shipping company will not take responsibility if the damage is not noted on the delivery receipt.
If you sign for the shipment free and clear and then later notice damage (i.e. you find concealed damage), please contact us immediately. Our company has a 3 day window from the date of delivery to file a concealed damage claim. The shipping company will typically accept responsibility for only 1/3 of the damage claim if it's signed for free and clear.
In the event of shipping damage, call (866) 387-8822 immediately so we can expedite replacements. We do not accept any claims for damage or shortage after 3 days from date of delivery.
Review Your Pick Ticket
We pack our boxes with the goal of reducing your shipping costs, not in the order the parts are needed. Do not simply tear into the boxes and begin removing parts. Instead, the process will be much easier if you locate the one box that contains your Pick Ticket before opening any others (see example below).

Check Your Components Against Your Design
In addition to checking that your shipment matches what was on the bill of materials, be sure to check that it matches what was on your shop plan design (if you received one from our team of experts). When your shop plan was completed, you would have received detailed drawings from our technicians with a detailed part list for your convenience.
Ensure All Components Are The Correct Size
Now is the time to take some quick measurements, just in case there were any mistakes during ordering or shipping. Wye Joints in particular should be checked since there's the potential of three different branches being incorrect.
In the event of any incorrect pipe sizes, please provided images of each mistaken component to our support team. The images should show the label or marking on the product and the actual size of the ductwork using a measuring tape in the image as evidence. Contact Customer Service immediately at (866) 387-8822 so we can expedite replacements.
Layout Your Ductwork On The Ground
You'll want to check how your layout looks before connecting components as you may have extra piping that you didn't account for. It's also much easier to test connections before drilling, taping, and caulking components together. Remember that adjacent parts will often not be in the same box, so laying things out ahead of time will significantly reduce the time it will take to complete the job once the installation begins. The main duct can be assembled on the ground in sections.
What's Next?
Once you've laid out your setup, you're ready to begin assembling the main line. A main line (sometimes referred to as a trunk line) is round, galvanized steel ducting to convey airborne dust and debris directly to the dust collector.
