Intertek is a global leader in testing, inspection and certification of products, commodities and systems.

The data in columns 1-12 above represents the filtration efficiency in percentage (%) across a range of particle sizes (mean, or average, particle size from 0.35 micron to 8.37 micron). Filtration efficiency is simply the number of particles that the air filter traps out of the total number “dumped” into the test ductwork upstream of the air filter during the test.

Note that it takes only a small amount of dust to increase the filtration efficiency across all 12 particle size groups to near 100% (the first two dust loadings introduced 9 & 28 grams of dust respectively into the test ductwork). 37 grams (or 1.3 ounces of dust) would likely be introduced into the air filter after only a few hours of operation of the dust collector.

Once the filter is seasoned or conditioned with a small amount of wood dust, its filtration efficiency stays at near 100% for years even after repeated, and thorough, cleanings.

Green cells represent the operational range of the air filter in a wood dust collection application.
