What's wrong with using a standard dust bag floor sanding system?
Bag systems fill quickly, clog quickly, and are extremely dusty. The more you sand the worse your air flow. After about 10 minutes of sanding, there is usually a drop in suction due to restricted air flow, which means leaving behind more material on the floor and in the air. Additionally, more dust on the floor means more work for your sander, meaning your abrasives wear away quicker.
Does the Steel Dust Deputy have tapered inlets like your resin models?
No. The Steel Dust Deputy has straight 2" inlet and outlet ports. A 2.25" Hose Adapter and Hose Coupler are included with the steel Deluxe and DIY kits to simplify hose connections for customers.
Why should I upgrade my single-stage filter?
Standard single-stage dust collectors are typically equipped with a cloth bag filter rated for particles 1 micron in size. While effective for trapping some dusts, they still let through the smallest particles that are in fact the most damaging to your health as they can become deeply lodged within your sinus cavities. Additionally, many wood dust have been shown in studies to be carcinogenic. This independently certified HEPA filter captures 99.97% of particles as small as 0.3 microns (the same level of filtration used in hospital environments) so woodworkers can rest assured that their hobby won't hurt their health.
What is the difference between this unit and the older Plenum Exhaust Silencers?
Both the Stacking Sound Filter and the Exhaust Silencer offer similar performance in terms of noise reduction, but exhaust silencers must be installed into the plenum assembly and will increase the overall footprint of the system by 12" to 36" and will require additional components (hangers, square to rounds, etc.). Exhaust Silencers are intended for installation into long transitional ducting such as when the filter is located far from the collector - typical of industrial systems such as the Direct Drive.
Comparatively, the Stacking Sound Filters can be installed quickly and easily, requiring no additional components.

What is the difference between the black Dust Deputy and the clear one?
