Dust Collection for CNC Applications

Challenges of CNC Dust Collection

Poor dust collection can damage the health and performance of your CNC, leading to worn down parts, imprecise cuts, and a hazardous work environment.

Large amounts of rapidly produced dust
CNC machines are typically the messiest of all woodworking tools, generating fine dusts and bulk debris both rapidly and in great volume.
High velocity cuts from various angles
Compared to most other tools (e.g. table saws, band saws, drum sanders, etc.) the direction of the generated dust is frequently changing with CNC machines.
A constantly changing dust source requires long runs of flex hose
Dust collection is always best when you capture dust at the source (before it can spread into the air) but with the rapid and wide range of movement of the cutter head, that source is always on the move. This type of dust source requires more flex hose than a traditional duct design would usually need. Flex hose adds significantly more resistance to the layout and is more restrictive to airflow than metal pipe or duct.
Inadequate airflow design within the tool
Dust collection is typically an afterthought for CNC tool manufacturers and because of this, many tools suffer from undersized and/or poorly placed dust ports.

The Solution

CNCs need as much airflow (CFM) as possible but also need high suction (static pressure) to overcome losses through hose in order to provide good pickup. High static pressure collectors from Oneida Air Systems are designed specifically with this in mind. With higher suction power than traditional dust collectors, these systems provide high air velocity at the cutter head to collect the large volume of dust created by CNC machines.

Plus, with industry-leading support, we'll help you pick the optimal collector for your setup and provide you with a ductwork design, safety guides, and more!
