5" x 6" Super Dust Deputy Steel Cyclone Separator (6" Mounting Flange)

For industrial use with single stage dust collectors and 4" to 6" piping, this steel DIY cyclone eliminates filter clogging, suction loss, and messy dust bags by removing up to 99.9% of fine dust and debris from the airstream, containing it safely in a customer supplied container.

Build Your Own Industrial Cyclonic Dust Collector!

Single-stage dust collectors are great for small, hobbyist shops but they come with a cost - fine dust quickly clogs the filter, reducing suction and leaving dust at your tools! Worse still, there's nothing to protect your dust collector from being damaged should you accidentally suck up large wood chunks, bolts, etc.

How do you improve your dust collector's performance while dramatically reducing the need to clean or replace its filter? Install our cyclone!

Oneida Air Systems' patented Steel Super Dust Deputy® cyclone separator prevents up to 99.9% of dust and debris from reaching the dust collector, virtually eliminating filter clogging, suction loss, and significantly prolonging the lifespan of your filter. (US Pat. #7282074, #D703401).

  • Industrial-grade 20 gauge steel body with black powder-coat finish
  • Prevents both fine dust and large debris from reaching your dust collector
  • Ideal for heavy duty jobs with smoldering or highly abrasive materials
  • Prolongs the lifespan of the filter while reducing the need for cleanings
  • Efficient and compact design with integral 5" neutral-vane inlet
  • Includes pre-crimped pipe adapter fitting for simple installation
  • Compatible with almost any dust collector (e.g. Delta, Grizzly, Harbor Freight, Jet, etc.)

Which Super Dust Deputy cyclone do I need?
If your shop has fixed piping that matches the diameter of your dust collector's intake, choose a cyclone that matches that diameter as well. The collector's horsepower and CFM do not affect the performance of the different models. For more details, click "Read More".
How does the Low-Pro compare to the taller cyclones?
The separation efficiency is comparable between the Low-Pro and original Dust Deputy - both are rated for up to 99.9% of dust and debris. Click "Read More" to learn more about the differences between the Dust Deputy cyclones.
Why do I need a cyclone separator?
Standard single-stage or bag-style dust collectors lose suction very quickly as the filter becomes clogged with fine dust. The cyclone uses centrifugal force to separate dust and debris from the incoming airstream, containing it safely away from the collector. This frees up the dust collector to move as much air as physically possible without hindrance. That means less downtime for filter cleaning, continuously high suction, and significantly prolonged filter life.
What else do I need to get started?
In addition to the cyclone and your dust collector, you will need a reinforced, airtight container to mount it to, as well as flex hose or piping to connect it to your tools and dust collector. The Deluxe kit includes the essential components, but you will still need flex hose and/or piping. Any connections should be sealed using silicone caulk or HVAC foil tape.Shop for Assembly Tools
How do I troubleshoot an air leak with my Super Dust Deputy cyclone?
Even a small leak can significantly affect the overall separation performance of the cyclone. If you can't audibly pinpoint where the leak might be coming from, one of the simplest ways to check for air leaks is with a smoke test. Click "Read More" for further instructions and tips.
Why should I choose the metal version of your Dust Deputy cyclone?
Our steel Dust Deputy models are built for the toughest applications. If you're going to be sucking up large amounts of highly abrasive materials such as metals and gravel, the heavy-gauge cold-rolled steel cyclone will perform better and longer than our injection molded models. It's also ideal if you're expecting to suck up high-temperature materials such as hot coals and ash.
Can I use this with a shop vacuum?
No. Super Dust Deputy cyclones are designed for use in systems with high airflow volume (above 350 CFM) and low static pressure (below 10" WC). Shop vacuums are the exact opposite of this i.e. they are low airflow (below 250 CFM) but with high air pressure (above 60" WC). For standard vacuums we recommend our regular Dust Deputy kits.
What dust collectors is the 5" Super Dust Deputy compatible with?
The 5" SDD cyclone can be used to retrofit nearly make or model dust collector with a 4"-6" diameter intake. This inlet size is typical of 1/2HP to 3HP single stage dust collectors by manufacturers such as Delta, Harbor Freight, Grizzly, Jet, Laguna, Powermatic, Rikon, Rockler, Shop Fox, etc.We recommend an operating airflow of at least 350 CFM for the 5" cyclone to effectively separate 99% of debris from the airstream.
Can I vent my system outside?
If you have conditioned air in your shop (heated or cooled), then exhausting outside can be costly. If your building is small and well-sealed, you can interfere with flue exhausts as well. Close neighbors might object. If the Dust Collection system is run intermittently it is generally not a problem. Most buildings have enough leaks and crevices where the aforementioned volume of air does not cause problems. If you have a problem opening or closing an outside door when the DC is running, crack a window slightly. The rule of thumb is for every 500 CFM have at least 1 sq/ft of return air coming back into the shop. A lot of our customers blow exhaust air outside successfully.
How do I connect the Super Dust Deputy to my tools?
Connection options differ between Super Dust Deputy models. Click "Read More" for further details.
What can I use to mobilize my dust collection setup?
If you're looking for any easy way to move your cyclone around the shop, without having to lift and carry it every time, we recommend pairing the cyclone with our Universal Drum Dolly and our Angle Brace Kit (to add extra stability).
How do I install the cyclone onto my container?
Our Super Dust Deputy cyclone includes basic hardware and a foam gasket for mounting to your container's lid. We also offer a complete 17 gal. drum kit that can be readily used with any Super Dust Deputy cyclone. If you are supplying your own container, we provide this free downloadable Lid Hole Template for our customers. If you are connecting your cyclone to the dust bin via flex hose, you may also need a 6" Angle Ring Flange.
Does the Super Dust Deputy perform differently if it is mounted directly to a container vs. having a vertical hose/pipe between the bottom discharge port and the top of the container?
You will not see a difference in separation or airflow performance with either method. Users can choose either "mounting" method to position the cyclone in a way that works best for their shop. The main factor you'll want to consider is how you'll be emptying the dust bin once it's full. Connecting the bin with hose allows the drum lid to be removed easier compared to lifting off the cyclone and lid together as a single component. The downside to the hose connection method is that you'll require additional components to purchase and will have more variables to consider when ensuring that the system is sealed airtight.
Do I still need to use my filter?
Yes. All of our cyclone separators are designed to be used in conjunction with an air filter as they are only meant to remove the majority of dust and debris - not all of it. Eliminating the filter entirely would allow small, harmful dust back into your shop's air.The exception to this rule is if you have the means to vent your waste air outside of the shop. If you pursue that method be sure to consider the loss of conditioned/heated air, local safety codes, and whether your neighbors will be affected by dust laden air.
What filter works best with this cyclone?
We recommend that customers use our MERV 16± HEPA Filter Upgrade Kit as it provides the healthiest return air for your shop, as well as being easily serviceable thanks to its wide spaced pleating and non-stick membrane coating.
Can I use this steel cyclone with smoldering or abrasive debris?
Yes, absolutely. This cyclone is built with heavy-gauge, powder coated steel for industrial applications collecting highly abrasive or smoldering materials e.g. hot ash/soot, blasting powders, concrete, grinding dust, etc. Please note that you should also ensure that your vacuum/dust collector is rated to accept these same types of materials i.e. do not collect hot/smoldering materials if your vacuum isn't normally capable of collecting this type of waste.
Do your steel cyclones have the same separation performance as your resin models?
Yes our steel cyclones offer the same separation performance as our molded resin cyclones.
Can I use this Super Dust Deputy cyclone with food products?
While some customers have found use for our cyclones in food related applications (e.g. farming, coffee roasting, etc.) it is not rated as a food safe material by the FDA. This cyclone should only be used for food waste products and not anything that will re-purposed for later consumption.
Do you have a Super Dust Deputy that can fit underneath a workbench?
No. We do not offer a "low profile" version of our Super Dust Deputy.
Is the steel cyclone rust-proof?
In short, no. The steel cyclone has a powder-coat finish, ensuring that it's durable and rust resistant, but if you expect to have your cyclone exposed to water on a regular basis (e.g. exposed to harsh weather, submerged in water, etc.) we recommend you find additional covering to prevent corrosion over time.
How do I connect my cyclone to PVC pipe?
We do not recommend the use of plastic PVC pipe in dust collection applications due to the static charge it creates. We do not offer adapters for connecting our cyclones to this type of piping, only rigid steel ductwork.
