Ed Neuhauser harvests and mills wood on his 130-acre property in Groton, NY. He owns a 55-gallon wall mounted Supercell dust collector made by Oneida Air Systems.
I have a small sawmill that I obtained in retirement; and I built a shop and a sawmill building to be able to use that wood and share it with my friends and relatives. When I first got the sawmill—before I even turned it on--I spent three days going over every page of the manual. I remember thinking how it seemed like such a big, expensive, and potentially dangerous piece of equipment. Now that I’ve spent a lot of time using it, I find it's quite safe and actually pretty neat to use.
His Woods, Workshop, and Sawmill Building
75 acres of my property is wooded. The walls of my 36' x 56' workshop and the structure of the 30' x 56' building that houses my sawmill are built from logs I harvested from my woods. I have a stand of five acres of red pine that was planted in 1927 and is ready to harvest now. There's also a lot of hardwoods on my property, particularly Ash, which we’ve harvested a lot this year.
His Experience with the Supercell Dust Collector
To prepare for designing and building my shop, I went to four other guys and looked at their shops. For dust collection, Oneida Air’s name came up consistently, again and again. I also heard their customer support was really good.
One reason I decided to buy my Supercell from Oneida Air was because it was locally made. I like to buy local when I can.
Prior to installing the Supercell, I was collecting from all my machines with a wet/dry vac, which I’d have to empty every 20 minutes. It’s so much better now with the Supercell. I installed its 25-feet of hose in the middle of my shop and I’m able to collect from all my machines. It’s great! There’s more than enough suction. It works really well. There’s hardly a bit of sawdust on the floor. My shop is ten times cleaner now than it used to be.
The collector’s bag holder system makes it easy for me to collect shavings in bags rather than having to empty the 55-gallon drum all the time. And the wall mount keeps the system out of my way. It’s so compact, I repurposed the room I had originally planned to house my new dust collector. I had assumed I needed all this space reserved for a larger collector—not the case with the Supercell!
